Why is prevention important?

Early detection saves lives.
In most cases, breast cancer in its initial stages does not give symptoms. Through a prophylactic mammological examination (ultrasound or mammography), small formations or cysts can be detected that are not felt on self-palpation. This makes it possible to detect precancerous or benign changes that can be observed and treated before serious diseases develop.

How often does it occur?

Breast cancer is the most common oncological disease in women both in Bulgaria and in the world. In Bulgaria, more than 4,000 new cases are diagnosed annually, but thanks to early detection and advances in treatment, more than 70% of women diagnosed at an early stage have an excellent prognosis.

When and how to be examined?

• From 20 to 40 years:preventive examination by a specialist every 1—2 years.
• From 40 to 50 years:mammography or ultrasound once a year.
• Over 50 years old:mammography examination every 2 years, unless the doctor recommends more often.
