Prevention before your trip

‍ The health campaign “Prevention before travel” includes:

• Consultation with an infectious disease doctor
• Health risk assessment by destination
• Vaccine and Medication Recommendations
• Tips for choosing effective repellents, hygiene and behavior
• Information on what to have in your first aid kit when traveling

The consultation is conducted by Dr. Veronika Gadjovska, specialist in infectious diseases and freelance lecturer in Infectious Diseases at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.

More and more people are choosing exotic and distant places for your vacation— from the white beaches of Zanzibar and the Dominican Republic, through the cultural wealth of Thailand and Indonesia, to the tropical islands of the Maldives and Sri Lanka.

These trips bring incredible experiences, but also health risks that we often do not suspect— different climate, food and water, specific flora and fauna, as well as infectious diseases not found in Europe.

✈️ Did you know that:

• Each latitude carries its risks — unknown viruses, different flora and fauna, food and water to which our body is not accustomed.
• Some diseases that we consider “extinct” -- such as typhus, hepatitis A or even malaria -- are still found in parts of Asia, Africa and South America, although they have long been no problem in Europe and North America.
• Hygiene standards vary from country to country — this creates the prerequisites for intestinal infections and other diseases.
• Mosquitoes and other insects can carry diseases specific to tropical areas — and not all repellents work equally everywhere! 💡 For example: repellents effective in Europe are often not enough in South Asia or Central Africa.

• Receive individual advice according to the destination;
• Discuss necessary vaccines and preventive measures;
• Understand what medications and products to carry with you;
• You learn how to react to bites, fever, infection or other health problem during the trip;
